Duckworth Receives ESS “Medical Services Employee of the Year” Honor
Collins resident Deborah “Debbie” Duckworth was recently named Ellisville State School’s “2013 Medical Services Employee of the Year.”
Duckworth, who currently serves as an administrative assistant in Medical Services, began her Ellisville State School (ESS) career as a dental assistant in December 2001. She then transferred to become a secretary in the Medical Department in March 2005. Duckworth was promoted to an Administrative Assistant II position in July 2008.
“I have learned so much while working at ESS over the past several years and have made many friendships with some terrific people,” said Duckworth. “The most rewarding thing about my position is being able to serve and help others.
“Supervising the secretarial staff is very enjoyable, as well as providing assistance to professional staff and other departments,” added Duckworth. “Different daily task keep my job interesting and challenging.”
While Duckworth said she was shocked to be chosen to receive the award, Medical Services Director, Dr. Michael Brooks, said “she is an excellent choice.” Brooks said 50 Medical Services employees are eligible recipients of the award, but Duckworth received the most votes from her colleagues.
“I tell everybody that when selecting the employee of the year they should consider the individual’s dedication to client care, dependability and if they work well with fellow employees,” said Brooks. “(Debbie) is great in all these areas.”
As recipient of the “2013 Medical Employee of the Year” award, Duckworth received a personalized desk plaque, a beautiful crystal bowl and a cash prize.
“I have never received an award like this before and it is very exciting and overwhelming,” said Duckworth. “There are so many wonderful and caring people that work in Medical, I was shocked to be chosen for this award. I am very thankful and truly appreciate everyone that voted for me.”
Duckworth said she enjoys her job and serving the individuals at ESS. She said the keys to success are staying positive, maintaining a friendly attitude, being considerate of others, showing respect, having patience, remaining humble, being a blessing to others, and always seeking the best solutions that meet the needs of individuals and staff she has been “blessed to work with.”
“I have a strong faith in the Lord and believe He places us where we will be most beneficial to serve Him and others,” said Duckworth. “I love the people I work with and my job at Medical Services. I am grateful to be able to serve the individuals and staff at ESS.”
