L to R: Dr. Michael Brooks, Breanna Bonner, FNP
Breanna Bonner, of Waynesboro, was recently chosen as the 2015 Medical Services Employee of the Year at Ellisville State School (ESS). The announcement was made at a ceremony held on December 18. Dr. Michael Brooks, director of Medical Services at Ellisville State School, stated that this year’s choice for the winner was “an excellent one.”
“She is dependable, extremely reliable, very conscientious about her work, and very knowledgeable about her work,” Brooks said of Bonner. “She has a lot of experience and is very good at relating to our people.”
Bonner, who has been a family nurse practitioner at Ellisville State School since 2013, also has ten years of prior experience as a registered nurse. She stated that during her interview for the job, she knew in her heart that Ellisville State School was where she belonged.
“My favorite thing about working at ESS is knowing that I am serving and making a difference in the lives of a vulnerable population,” Bonner said. “The most fulfilling aspect of my job occurs when I am able to aid in the healing of one of the persons served, whether it be a life threatening illness or a minor rash.”
“This is a well-deserved award,” added Rinsey McSwain, director of Ellisville State School. “Ms. Bonner has a lot of compassion for the people we serve.”
This was the fourth year for the award, which was originally initiated by Brooks as a way of improving morale for employees. The winner is chosen by employees in the Medical department. Everyone in the department is eligible to be considered for the award, with the primary criteria for nomination being the devotion an employee demonstrates in caring for the people served by ESS. The winner also receives a cash award, a gift and a plaque.
When asked how she felt to hear her name announced as the winner of the award, Bonner replied, “Shocked! And, of course, humbled that my peers thought so highly of me.”
